Hungary opens labour check at CATL with immediate effect
As Portfolio reported, citing Telex, the Chinese battery producer, which is currently building a factory in Debrecen, has reportedly begun a major downsizing, laying off dozens of Hungarian workers in recent weeks. These workers may be replaced by Chinese employees, according to rumours.
CATL later denied this, writing that misunderstandings could be due to Chinese specialists temporarily coming to Debrecen for technological and organisational preparations before production begins.
In a letter to Index, Sándor Czomba said that he had held talks with representatives of CATL.
Following the consultation, the Economy Ministry ordered an immediate labour market and employment monitoring of CATL. The investigation will cover all of CATL's issued and pending employment applications. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, previously issued licences may be withdrawn,
the state secretary wrote.
