The National Bank of Hungary (MNB) has launched the Certified Corporate Loan (MVH) qualification to strengthen competition in the banking system. The scheme, established through an agreement between the central bank and the Hungarian Banking Association, aims to provide SMEs with accessible investment loans featuring standardised, transparent conditions, simple and quick administration, and favourable pricing.

Despite the current market environment offering high lending capacities, the non-state subsidised loan products available to SMEs from banks are highly heterogeneous, with conditions and administration that are often not competitive for businesses, the MNB highlighted in a statement on Friday.

In light of this, the central bank has conducted intensive discussions with the Hungarian Banking Association in recent weeks regarding market-based stimulation of corporate lending activity, with particular focus on the SME sector. Following the model of previously implemented Certified Consumer-Friendly products, as a result of this collaboration,

the central bank will make the Certified Corporate Loan (MVH) qualification available from 1 August 2025.

The designation can be awarded to forint-based corporate investment loan products that meet the conditions set by the central bank. Based on the detailed application criteria, credit institutions can request certification of their products from 1 August 2025. Following the evaluation of applications, Certified Corporate Loans could be made available to businesses as early as September, potentially becoming a permanent feature of market practice and providing broad support for their investment goals.

Information about the application process and eligibility criteria for businesses, a list of institutions offering Certified Corporate Loans and product information sheets containing the main loan conditions will be available on the designated MNB website. However, details about the qualification requirements have not yet been disclosed.
