Bosch to relocate production from Germany to Hungary
Bosch has officially confirmed that it will be relocating some of its production from its German sites to Miskolc.
In April, the German tech giant announced the closure of two of its Bosch Power Tools division plants in Germany by 2026, citing the ongoing economic crisis and failure to come up with a sustainable business model for these operations.
A total of 500 workers will be affected by the closures of the plants in Leinfelden-Echterdingen (Baden-Württemberg) and Sebnitz (Saxony) – 230 in Leinfelden and 270 in Sebnitz. Production will continue in Bosch's international network, including the Miskolc plant.
Robert Bosch Power Tools Ltd. in Miskolc has grown into the group's largest hand tool factory since it began operating in 2001, with more than 3,700 employees. As well as manufacturing power tools, garden equipment and eBike batteries, the site has also been a pioneer in introducing Industry 4.0 technologies in Hungary. This has been recognised with numerous professional awards, including the 'Factory of the Year' award.
The expansion of the Miskolc plant is clearly demonstrated by the nearly 100,000-square-metre logistics and distribution centre, which was completed in February of this year at a cost of more than HUF 54 billion. All Bosch products shipped to eastern Europe depart from here.
