Spar remains profitable in Slovenia

SPAR Slovenia has reported a 6.1% increase increase in revenue, to €1.174 billion, in its financial year 2024 with a net profit of €18.7 million, the European Supermarket Magazine (ESM) reported on Thursday.

According to the company, customer visits grew by 1.8% to a total of 59.6 million purchases, averaging almost 200,000 shoppers per day.

During the year, SPAR Slovenia expanded its sales network to 113 stores nationwide, including 13 Interspar megamarkets, eight Interspar restaurants and SPAR Online services.

During this period, the company renovated four existing stores, opened two new company-owned stores and added seven franchise locations. The company also invested in infrastructure, including a new fresh produce warehouse to improve product availability and freshness.

In 2024, SPAR expanded its own-brand range by introducing Rossmann Alterra's natural body care products and the Scotty Nature and Molly Nature pet food brands. It also updated and expanded its SPAR Veggie, Free From, and SPAR Vital lines to cater to diverse dietary and lifestyle needs.

Overall, SPAR added 2,369 own-brand and exclusive brand products in 2024, a 6% increase from the previous year.

Meanwhile, SPAR in Hungary closed last year with a loss, despite a 5% increase in revenue. The company made a loss of HUF 24.8 billion last year, following a loss of HUF 18.3 billion in 2023.
