Viktor Orbán announces minimum wage increase
The Prime Minister's announcement contains no new information, but he reminds that the government is facilitating the increase in labour costs with an 11-point tax reduction programme, which will reduce the tax burden on small and medium-sized enterprises by HUF 90 billion.
As a result of the increase, the minimum wage will rise to HUF 322,800 gross, and the guaranteed minimum wage will be HUF 373,200 from January 2026.
The increase exceeds the expected inflation rate, so the purchasing power of earnings may continue to rise next year. Based on experience, the two types of statutory wage levels have a strong influence on the overall national wage dynamics, so the average rate of wage increase next year could be 8-9%.
According to Orbán's post, as a result of the wage agreement, the income of a total of 700,000 families will definitely increase from 1 January.
Today at 10:00, the Prime Minister will hold a press conference with Zoltán Zs. Szőke, President of the National Federation of General Consumer Cooperatives and Commercial Companies, and Imre Palkovics, President of the National Federation of Workers' Councils. As revealed in the invitation, after the briefing, the Prime Minister will sign a joint declaration with the two presidents, which certainly refers to the wage agreement.
