New gas extraction well starts production in Hungary

Portfolio
In December, production started from two new wells in the Békés gas field. The third active well, Nyék-13, was brought on production in Nyékpuszta on 20 December 2023. The first well in the Békés field has been in operation since February, and since the beginning of December it has been joined by another well that was drilled several years ago. With the new well in operation from today, three wells are now producing natural gas and light oil in the area, the Energy Ministry said.

The fourth well is scheduled to come on stream in January 2024.

The exploitation of the Nyékpuszta hydrocarbon deposit discovered in the Sarkad area is carried out in a joint venture structure with the participation of the Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) Group. The Corvinus project was declared a priority investment by the government last summer. The Nyék-6A well, which started production in February this year, and the Nyék-2 well, which was drilled years ago but has only been in operation since early December,

have so far produced a total of around 37 million cubic metres of natural gas and 42 thousand cubic metres of condensate.

The parties involved in the Corvinus project, including MVM CEEnergy Ltd., are committed to continuously exploiting the hydrocarbon potential of the area and increasing daily capacity. The experts have been working for months to bring the two wells drilled in 2023 into production. Thanks to the completion of all the technical conditions, the Nyék-13 well has now started production. The launch of the Nyék-8 well, also drilled this year, is expected next January.
