Türkiye to start supplying gas to Hungary, Mol gears up for joint oil and gas production with a Turkish peer
Péter Szijjártó also revealed at an event with Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat that Mol and Türkiye's TPAO will start preparations for joint oil and gas exploration in south-east Türkiye, drawing on Russian and Azeri experience.
In another post, the Hungarian minister pointed out that the gas supply from Türkiye starting this year is important because
it will make Hungary the first non-neighbouring country to which Türkiye will export natural gas.
The gas contract between MVM and BOTAS was first announced on 20 August last year, when the planned volume (275 million cubic metres per year) was revealed. This is a small volume compared to the total Hungarian gas consumption of 8.5 bcm/year and the Russian contract of 4.5 bcm/year, but it helps diversify sources.
Later on, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó stressed at a press conference with Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan that Hungary's natural gas supply cannot be secured without Türkiye, which is one of the most important and reliable transit partners, as it is the main source of imports.
