HUF 40 billion subsidy for renewables: after solar and geothermal energy, this could be Hungary's next big move
The ministry is
offering support to Hungarian companies for the construction and expansion of biogas and biomethane production capacities,
with applications open from 28 October 2025.
The programme provides funding for investments and equipment purchases, covering everything from the collection of raw materials to the utilisation of residual materials and by-products. Of the total funding available, HUF 18 billion is reserved for plants producing less than 500 cubic metres of raw biogas per hour.
The deadline for implementing the expected 15-30 supported developments is uniformly set for the end of 2028.
In line with environmental sustainability and circular economy principles, the biological end product must be utilised in agriculture as a soil nutrient replenishment material.
The Ministry of Energy added that, in terms of renewables, Hungary's natural conditions are most favourable for biogas and biomethane applications beyond solar and geothermal energy. The ministry is promoting the green transition of molecules by increasing the use of electricity, thermal energy and fuel, and replacing natural gas.
The developments supported under the Jedlik Ányos Energy Programme reduce the energy costs of Hungarian businesses, improving their competitive position,
added Attila Steiner, State Secretary for Energy.
