Market rumour says OTP eyes Turkish Demizbank

Portfolio
The share price of Turkish Demizbank jumped by over 7.0% in morning trade on Monday, over market rumours that Hungary's flagship bank OTP was eying the Turkish bank. We believe the gossip rests on a shaky legs.
While OTP carries an ambitious acquisition policy, first and foremost the bank focuses its resources on enhancing its positions in neighbouring countries. Other locations may only come in a second wave of buy-ups. Acquiring Demizbank could be easily managed by OTP, but its acquisition budget would soon be depleted without a capital raise.

OTP wishes to buy a number of foreign banks in the foreseeable future, but among its primary targets we do not find Turkey.

OTP's market capitalisation has exceeded USD 10 billion just last week.
