The trading volume on the Budapest Stock Exchange’s(BSE) futures market plummeted by nearly 60% year on year in May, and even on a monthly basis there was an almost 18% drop. Just like on the spot market, there is no change in the negative trend. This was the 10th month in a row when turnover fell on an annual basis.
Total futures turnover (HUF 208.5 bn) was down by 58.8% yr/yr. The decline is attributable primarily to BUX futures turnover (-75.8%), but turnover in individual stocks also dropped sharply (-43.4% yr/yr).
Compared to a month ago there was a drop of 17.5%, primarily because of a 18.6% erosion in the turnover of individual stocks, while BUX futures turnover was also down 14.3%.
As a result the 12-month trailing turnover ebbed further in May - for the 9th consecutive month - to HUF 3,232 bn.
There was no change in the ranking of brokerages compared to April. Erste maintained its lead over its rivals, carving out 28% of the market (up from 25% in the preceding month), and Buda-Cash is second with a 22% market share (vs. 17% in April).
