New bridge between Hungary and Slovakia opened
At the inauguration of the 50-metre St. Barbara Bridge (St. Borbála in Hungarian), built at a cost of almost HUF 3 billion (EUR 7.6 mn), the minister said that one kilometre of road construction had been completed in Hungary and five hundred metres on the Slovakian side, which had reduced the crossing time to a few minutes instead of the previous twenty kilometres.
There are currently 40 crossing points on the 654-kilometre Slovakian border, almost double the number a decade and a half ago. The value of trade between the two countries has increased at a similar rate: last year Slovakia was Hungary's second largest trading partner with a turnover of €15 billion.
