COVID-19 in Hungary: 844 new cases on Sunday

Hungarian authorities confirmed 844 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Sunday, increasing the total since March to 360,418. The death toll rose to 12,024 after the disease claimed the lives of 56, mostly elderly or chronic, patients, the official government website said.

The 844 new cases registered in the past 24 hours fit the trend of the past 10 days, when new cases were around 1,000.

There were 56 fatalities yesterday, increasing the total coronavirus death count in Hungary to 12,024. Daily fatalities were the lowest since early November.

The number of active cases decreased by a further 832 to 105,302, while 243,092 people have recovered from the disease.

The number of people treated in hospital rose slightly yesterday and currently stands at 3,814, while the number of people receiving artificial ventilation decreased and is now 247.

146,695 people in Hungary have been vaccinated so far, and 9,043 people have already received a second shot. Some 1.5% of the population has been vaccinated, primarily health workers, but also some 10,000 residents and workers in nursing homes.

Hungary has received enough vaccine for 165,000 people so far from Pfizer and Moderna, the only two vaccines to have been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

There will be further shipments from Pfizer on Monday and Tuesday with 36,270 doses of vaccine arriving in Hungary.
