A new bridge will be built on the Ipoly river between Vrbovka, Slovakia (Ipolyvarbó in Hungarian) and Őrhalom, Hungary.
The Slovakian government has approved on Wednesday the draft of an intergovernmental agreement for the construction of a bridge between the two countries that will allow the crossing of passenger cars, lorries weighing less than 3.5 tonnes, pedestrians and bikers, Karolína Ducká, spokesperson for Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport and Construction, told Hungarian newswire MTI.

The new bridge on the Ipoly river will ensure a better transport in the region. It will bring the two regions closer. [...] Its added value to the development of tourism in the border regions is also significant

, said Árpád Érsek, Minister of Transport and Construction of Slovakia.

The project will be funded by the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Hungary 2014-2020 Co-operation Programme, Slovakia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the budget of the Banská Bystrica District.

There is currently only a wooden bridge connecting Ipolyvarbó and Őrhalom that may be crossed only on foot or on bicycle.
