Hungarian energy group Mol is to lower the wholesale gross list price of petrol and diesel on Wednesday (28 February), fuel price tracking site holtankoljak.hu reported on Monday.

As of Wednesday, the wholesale gross list price of petrol will be trimmed by HUF 3 per litre, and the price of diesel will be cut by HUF 10 per litre. Accordingly, we should find the following average retail prices at the pumps two days from now:

  • 95-octane petrol: HUF 615/litre
  • Diesel: HUF 647/litre

This is how fuel prices changed in Hungary since the start of 2023. The price of both fuel types was last this high in early or mid-October.

The price reduction still leaves the price of petrol HUF 45 (7.9%) and the price of diesel HUF 54 (9.1%) higher than at the end of 2023. Comparing current prices to the end of 2022 may make us nostalgic, but looking further back may ruin our day.
