Szolnok to receive second bridge on Tisza

Vehicle traffic has multiplied in Szolnok, making the construction of a second bridge on the River Tisza justified. The Hungarian government has earmarked HUF 1.67 billion on preparing the project through the Ministry of Innovation and Technology. The total cost of the project is expected to reach HUF 25 to 30 billion, and it could take five to six years to complete.
The ministry will make a feasibility study and an environmental impact study, commission planning application documents and take care of all required permits, state secretary László Mosóczi said in Szolnok on Friday when announcing the bridge, adding that public procurement for planning will begin in Q3 2019 and a contract may be signed early in 2020.

Crossing the River Tisza is a bottleneck in traffic in Szolnok and the construction of motorway M4 is expected to further increase traffic, local MP Mária Kállai said at the event.

The new bridge will join M4 through a series of roundabouts and a new two-lane bypass road, mayor Ferenc Szalay told the press.
