COVID-19 in Hungary: less than 2,000 new cases on Monday

Hungarian authorities confirmed 1,893 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Monday, increasing the total since March to 285,763. The death toll rose to 7,237 after the disease claimed the lives of 107, mostly elderly or chronic, patients. The number of recoveries is now at 83,115, while the number of active cases is 195,411. There are currently 7,845 coronavirus patients in hospital, with 597 of them on ventilators.

The number of new cases in the past 24 hours was the lowest since24 October. The average of the past seven days now stands at 4,199, 17% fewer than a week earlier.

The number of fatalities is also decreasing and was the lowest since 25 November. The seven-day average is 160, 2% lower than a week ago.

The number of recoveries is increasing and is now at 83,115, while the number of active cases is 195,411, up 12% in a week. Meanwhile, the number of people in hospital and on ventilators dropped by 2.5% and 1%, respectively.

The number of tests applied rose by 73,116 in the past 24 hours, probably largely due to mass rapid test figures being added all at once. The ratio of new cases is therefore 2.5%, well below last week’s 12.5% average.
