COVID-19: 2,800 new cases, 144 deaths in Hungary

Hungarian authorities diagnosed 2,804 people with coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 288,567. 144 COVID-19 patients have died; the death toll is up at 7,381, the official government portal reported on Wednesday morning.

2,804 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus infection in Hungary in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 288,567. The daily figure hit its the lowest since the end of October in the previous day and it remains well below the average of the past seven days.

144 COVID-19 patients have died yesterday, mostly elderly citizens with chronic diseases. Coronavirus has officially claimed 7,381 in Hungary so far.

The number of active cases rose more than 1,800 to 197,246.

The number of coronavirus patients in hospitals dropped by 206 to 7,639, with 574 of them on ventilators, down 23 from a day earlier.

A total of 12,636 samples were tested yesterday and 22% of them came back positive. This compares with 74,116 tests performed a day earlier and a positivity rate of 2.6%. Before that: 19,245 tests, 18% positive. Go figure.
