COVID-19 in Hungary: 875 new cases on Sunday

Hungarian authorities confirmed 875 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Sunday, the official government website said. The death toll rose to 11,409 as 68 patients succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours.

With the 875 new cases, the total since March rose to 352,703. Following an increase in the first week of January, daily new cases have now been dropping for a week. The average number of new cases in the past week was 1,292, the lowest since last October.

The disease claimed the lives of 68, mostly elderly or chronic, patients yesterday, bringing total fatalities to 11,409. The last time daily fatalities were lower was in November.

The number of active cases dropped to 110,853 as 230,441 people have recovered from the disease. There are presently 4,445 coronavirus patients in hospital, with 330 of them on ventilators.

Hungary has received nearly 130,000 doses of vaccine so far, with most of the available amount used up already.

To date, 123,188 people have been vaccinated in Hungary, most of them health workers, but the figure also includes 10,000 residents and workers in nursing homes. This translates to 1.26% of Hungary’s population.
