Hungarian authorities confirmed 1,048 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, increasing the total since last March to 370,336. The death toll rose to 12,739 after the disease claimed the lives of 83, mostly elderly or chronic, patients. There are now 3,697 coronavirus patients in hospital, with 269 of them on ventilators. Hungary has vaccinated 247,270 people so far.

The 1,048 new cases continue the slight upward trend of daily case numbers. It appears the current level of defence measures is sufficient to prevent another acceleration of the outbreak but not to eliminate the virus.

The number of severe cases is also stagnating with a slight increase, and although the number of coronavirus patients treated in hospital decreased slightly compared to yesterday, there has been no improvement over the past week.

The number of fatalities in the past 24 hours was slightly higher than the average of the past 7 days but the downward trend continues.

The intensity of vaccination is decreasing as vaccine shipments are slowing, with just 4,000 people receiving their first shots yesterday, while more than 6,000 getting the second shot. Vaccination coverage in Hungary is now 2.5%.
