Hungary to subsidize small-scale solar plants

Portfolio
Hungary plans to squeeze out energy imports within 10 years, replacing its current 50% share using alternative sources, János Lázár, the minister leading the Prime Minister’s Office, announced at the government’s first Kormányinfo press conference in 2018. The government will therefore subsidize the construction of small-scale solar energy parks.
The cabinet has decided to rely 50% on nuclear energy and 50% on renewable, in particular solar energy. The government will do everything it can to ensure that these solar parks are Hungarian-owned, Lázár said. The programme envisions 3,000 such solar parks and is aimed at farmers. There is a similar system in Austria and Germany, Lázár added.

Farmers will receive subsidies to build solar energy parks on their land, with one permit per farmer, and a discount-rate loan will also be made available to them. The plan calls for 0.5 MW solar units, which require about one hectare of land to build.
