COVID-19 in Hungary: less than 400 new cases on Monday

Hungarian authorities confirmed just 382 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Monday, increasing the total since last March to 798,955. The death toll rose to 29,277 after 64 patients succumbed to the disease in the past 24 hours, the official government website said.

The 382 new cases is the lowest daily figure since September, indicating that the pandemic is receding in Hungary. That said, today is Tuesday, and it typically means lower figures from the weekend when less people go to doctors and less tests are applied. Nevertheless, today’s figure is also lower than last Tuesday’s.

There were 68 coronavirus-related fatalities in the past 24 hours, up from the previous day’s 38 but still keeping up the falling trend.

The number of people in hospital and of those on ventilator also decreased in the past 24 hours, by 62 and 7, respectively, although the rate of decline has slowed compared to recent weeks.

As mentioned above, Tuesdays typically bring lower test numbers. In the past 24 hours, only 7,104 tests were applied, fewer than the average of the past week but more than the previous Tuesday.

The number of vaccines administered in the past 24 hours was higher than the past week’s average as 75,693 people got a first jab and 22,000 a second one. Vaccination uptake is now 4,714,000, while 2,749,000 people have received both doses already.
